Love before gifting will Sustain a Movement

Love over Gifting will sustain the Move of God…

There is a lot of chatter in the church today about a move of God so many of us are beginning to experience. I just want to share a few thoughts on how we will be able to sustain this move and see it truly transform our societies.

One point I would like to make is – When God moves, His intentions are not to move a city for a moment of time – i.e. a month, year or even five years. The heart of the Father is to move a society from lack of provision to being nourished spiritually. This next wave of “revival” that we are hearing about should not be a moment in time, but a birthing of transformation that will change the history of that city for a life time.

God doesn't just want to have visitation with us, but He wants habitation...It’s not enough to have an encounter, but a transformation from within that lays down everything so we can pick up the anointing that produces the supernatural...

So how do we prepare our land and the people to sustain this great awakening that we so desperately need?

1. Learn to love each other. We are called to love – Love has to be the foundation for this movement. The foundation has to be deep enough and wide enough to sustain this transformation.

a. Who are we to love? It is easy to extend love to those in your own home church. Because you gather under a common agreement of doctrine. This must change. We need to look past our doctrinal stance and focus on the heart of God. We have core values, they are not negotiable, but we must come to a place of love and maturity to look past the silliness that has created denominational walls.

b. John 15:12 “This is My commandment: that you love one another [just] as I have loved you.”

The meaning of love in this passage is – Indicates a direction of will. To find joy in anything. To befriend. To find joy, we must look past ideas, agendas and disagreements.

c. John 15:13 – “No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.” This love is given not because man wants it, but because man needs it!

2. Love will be the driving force to keep this transformation alive within our cities. It will take a group effort to see the fullness of transition. We must learn to sow love because man needs it, not because man wants it. When we give love out of need, it feeds the spirit of a man. But if we give love out of want, then we are just petting the flesh and not creating a true or healthy relationship.

3. Learn to love yourself – We need to become confident in who God has created us to be. When we can love ourselves, then we can offer authentic love to those around us. This is a major key in transforming a city. As you learn to love yourself, you do not second guess your position as the beloved.

Love is what we need to run after, express and cultivate within the streets of our cities. It is time to move beyond loving each other with in the four walls of our local church to reaching out to the ends of our land.

I want to say – it will not be enough to have vision or passion to keep a city alive if there are not authentic relationships being established. It must be clear; transformation should not be upon one man’s shoulders. The Lord may release revelation to certain men or women, lets gather around them to see this supernatural transformation birthed!

Transformation can come without hurting individuals, homes or even churches when we learn how to honor the men and women in that season that the Lord has given favor. The question is whose kingdom are you trying to build? If we are seeking to see His kingdom here, we would want to lay down our agenda and stand around them and support them in any way we can.

The one danger we need to be open to is, that the man or woman being favor learns that, yes you may have the vision, but God is into team work. It’s not even enough to gather a team unless those on the team function without being bias.

A true supernatural movement is when love promotes the gifts of God. When the two collide, we will see transformation. If love stays our first focus – we will stay in the order of God!

These are just a few thoughts - I could go on, and I will revisit this subject because we need transformation and wisdom to sustain it!

Taking risk in the prophetic

Posted by lestom27 on October 28, 2013 at 9:50 AM Comments comments (3)

Are you willing to take a risk?  Through my years of ministry - one thing that keeps coming back to my spirit is - great risks can bring great blessings...whether for the one you are ministering too, or for yourself...as I was writing this - I had this thought..

R = Resist

I = Insecurities

S = Seek

K = Kingdom (the)

As we stand up and resist our insecurities, fears, doubts and the lies of the enemy - seeking, praying worshiping and being open to having the power of Heaven flow through us - that allows the Kingdom of God to be seen, felt and heard!

Whether you have been moving in the prophetic for a week or 20 years - the cost is the same.  Are we willing to risk our reputation to share the heart of the Father?

A few months ago - I was at a meeting and prophesied over a lady - the Lord revealed a few things, so I released what I felt the Lord was saying and continued to minister to others.  This weekend i was back at the Church doing a Question and Answer session.  A lady spoke up and said that the last time i was here - I spoke into her life - and most of it was right on but there was one word that she didn't understand or couldn't see how it would fit into her life...

I gently tried to explain to her, that many prophetic words are speaking about the potential the Lord has for them, and usually it is about something that could take place in their near future...As I was explaining this, I could sense that she still didnt grasp it completely.  Later that night, we broke up into groups to exercise our gifting with one another...

From across the room, I heard, "hey, what does an owl mean"  I responded - it could be a sign of the prophetic - its about seeing...As I turned around to see who it was for...it was for the lady that had questions about the word I gave her...the word over her was - "you will grow in the prophetic and have an increase in visions!"

Point of the story - I took a risk prophesying over this lady - months later another person took a risk and (to me) confirmed the word.

Resist your insecurities, seek the Kingdom (R.I.S.K.)

In closing, as i was sharing with this lady - i told her, I could have missed what the Lord was saying to her...part of taking a risk is, we can miss interpolate what the Lord is trying to say...If we wait till the time where we think we have it all in line to go out and minister, that time of ministry will never happen...we grow and learn as we walk out in the leading of the His spirit - its an adventure!

Having rest in ministry

Having rest in Ministry...

Rest, rest and more rest is what the doctor ordered.  A few weeks ago – I was having chest pain, so one thing lead to another and I found myself lying in a hospital bed for the day.  A place where none of us have a desire to spend our day, right?

They ran their test and performed cat scans and so forth, to say – your heart is good – but you need to learn how to rest and release stress, and get your blood pressure down.  I like to think I am a laid back guy – but it has been brought to my attention that I hold things in – which is not a good thing.

For many years, I have questioned, the meaning of rest in the Lord.  I am sure all of us have some view what it means and how to go about it.  I am sure many of us have had our ups and in downs within chasing after this rest.

For some, it might just actually mean to go on vacation.  For others, it could be a quiet place and relax.  For the extremist – bungee jumping off a bridge for the thrill.  Whatever it may be, there is still something at the core of our being that could slightly be misaligned if we are still struggling with not being at total peace in the ministry we are in.

This morning as I was waking up, I heard in my spirit “biblical rest is performing kingdom business while the yoke is easy and the burden is lite.”

What is a yoke?  It is a wooden U shape cross member that connects two things together – mainly used in farming – plowing up the soil.  A farmer would “yoke” two animals together to make the work easier, more productive and save the animals energy so it could work longer.

If you are in ministry and you are finding that your day to day activities just wear you out and not seeing any spiritual fruit being produced from your time.  I would encourage you, to take a step back and find out what is keeping you outside of rest.  For being in the rest of God, doesn’t mean, that you stop ministering (unless the Lord points you in that direction.)

It means, get a clear vision.  Are you pulling spiritual weight that is not your “burden?”  Are you misaligned in your calling?  Are you performing works due to pressure of those around you?  Are you trying to accomplish things for the “kingdom” because you might think that is what you are called to do?

If your ministry is heavy, not enjoyable to be a part of, frustrating, or leads you away from feeling at peace, joy and love for the people.  You might be out of the rest of the Lord and not in His will at this time.

The flip side is, you can have a national ministry and be a total peace and relaxing in this rest – but find yourself performing conferences, book signings, meetings and so forth and have the strength to carry a smile all day.  It truly is possible to minister and have rest working along side of each other.  Remember, rest is performing kingdom business with an easy yoke and a lite burden!

Time some time and think about your ministry – is it easy and lite or is it weighing you down?

Father, may we all walk in your rest.  To have peace and joy in the ministry you called us into.  May we find the way to be yoked in the spirit that makes our journey pleasing to our father?

Are you an equipper - Part 1

Are you called to be an equipper within the body?

There is such a need in the church today to equip the saints so we can aim to coming into the fullness of unity.  This need never left the church, it just has been pushed aside due to programs, and filling the pews and making the church building look pretty.  The problem with those works is just that – most times these works do not push people into their destiny – at times it does just the opposite, and we see people leave the church.

As one that helps in equipping others for the service of the Lord – the one aspect of the Kingdom that needs be seen and heard above all else is, the love of the Father has to be demonstrated at all times.  If we are equipping without love, we should not be in that role, period.  Perfect love casts out all fear!

While ministering in love, (at times) we do not even need to seek freedom because we are proclaiming love that releases freedom in the room.  As we learn how to move in our calling – may the spirit of wisdom fall upon us.

If you have a burden to equip, ask yourself – why do I have this desire and where did it come from.  Many have a spark of desire, but such desire needs to be tested to make sure it is a desire from heaven and not one that has been pressured upon you.  To walk days, months or even years in the wrong place or calling – hinders you and those that you are walking with.  If you are called to function in this role – here are a few basic things that will show in your walk.

  1. The call is seen among the body of Christ and released over your life.
  2. You begin to gain wisdom in the area you are called to equip – spiritual wisdom.
  3. You are drawn to others that are operating within the same type of calling.
  4. You begin to see your potential – how your role can actually advance the Kingdom.
  5. You might have a spiritual encounter with the Lord – through this encounter it is confirmed that you are to be an equipper.
  6. Your view in prayer and the things you are praying for begin to align to those things that surround the particular gift you walk in.
  7. As you begin to hang around people, you begin to see how your gift is able to help them propel into the depths of God.
  8. The greatest one is – to see people come to the love of the Father in all areas of their life.

So, are you an equipper?  What motivates you?  Are you a follower or leader?  What is you purpose to lead others?  What do you want to gain out of being an equipper?  These are questions that need to be answered with a humble heart.

Just a few thoughts for the day.

Power of Love

Posted by lestom27 on March 13, 2013 at 8:25 AM Comments comments (5)

As I woke up, a thought crossed my mind about love...and a question - what does love look like?

If you have spent any time in a church - and they teach on the subject of God's love - it always seems as tho it is painted as fluffy white clouds, the birds are singing - angels dancing and we are being being embraced by God.  Now, this is OK, and has some truth to it.  But i want to look at the other end of love.

One of the greatest acts of love found in the bible is, where Jesus was on the cross for you and I.  It doesn't mention white clouds, birds singing nor angels dancing.  In this one act of love, there was such a battle going on.  Then Jesus said, "It is finished."  His love for us was shown in a place of warring in the spiritual realm.

If we take a look at the life of Jesus on earth, many times his love was expressed in a giving, caring and humility as he served.  We need to learn from that, but we also need to understand that this love, has power and authority to destroy spiritual mountains.

John 15:12-15

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Laying our life down for another - True love

How many times have you read this passage - I have so many times - and it wasn't till today that i saw something...Vrs 13 - we quote this a lot - Greater love has no one than this - to lay down one's life for one's friends.  I have always looked at laying down your life as the key...but another word stood out today - "Friends".

In this point of the text - Jesus was still calling his disciples "servants" and then he begins to show the power of his love - vrs 15 - I no longer call you servants, instead i call you friends.  WOW - there was a shift in the demonstration of His love.

So we can see, Love is not all about fluffy clouds - its about battle, warring in the spirit for what is good for your friends, families and so on.  But there is a love that takes us to the trenches of life to deal with powers and principalities in the spirit.  This aspect of love needs to be evident in our walk.  staring in the sky is not going to win the battle.  Warring in the spirit - is a key!

Our Identity - Part 1

Posted by lestom27 on September 12, 2012 at 8:50 AM Comments comments (3)

What or who does your identity reflect – when you look in the mirror do you see characteristics of the world or those that reflect Jesus?

The bible states that we seated in the heavenlies – we are not citizens of this world but our spiritual Social Security number traces back to an address that is not of this world, so to speak.  Also, we know the bible says, be in this world, but not of it…so where does your identity come from and how does it reflect the things of Heaven?

If we are created in the image of Jesus, then we should walk in such characteristics.  I believe this verse means; we are created in his likeness – meaning in human form.  Within that we have the ability to walk and perform the tasks that He did while on earth. We both have the same Father – and still the task is at hand – to share the kingdom message – Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand…

Repentance is a key that changes your identity.  Repentance takes us from “in the world” to“being of the world”.  How powerful it is when we change one word – going from in to being – reveals our identity in Christ.

We can not walk in the true identity found in Jesus if we are walking in the world – meaning, partaking in all that it offers – falling into the sinful nature that is found where ever you may go.  Our identity is clouded when we are “in the world” playing with our destiny and purpose. To remove the fog, so to speak, repentance is the key – though that act of changing – Christ is revealed – where Christ is revealed – so it your identity.

If our identity is found “in the world” we can not fulfill the tasks at hand – to the full potential - what tasks are at hand?  Preach the Gospel, heal the sick, cast out demons and raise the dead.  Walking in the world stifles the anointing and authority we need to walk in to fulfill these tasks – we should review our walk daily and confess our sins that we would repent so Christ can reveal His Holy Spirit through us…

If we are “being of the world” then we are walking in the image of Christ – Christ was “of the world” but not in it – this is the key that we need to understand.  Sin hinders our identity – repentance reveals it.

Our identity doesn’t change – you gifting is not taken from you because of sin – but the power, authority and anointing that is connected with your identity suffers – when this takes place – You, Heaven and those around you are robbed – robbed due to the lack of understanding and walking in the power of your identity.

The bible states, “where there is no vision, people perish”I believe this can be used on a personal level – where we can not see our identity – that holds our vision – we lose focus and walk around in a daze.  We must run after and find our identity in Christ – that we have vision that creates purpose that releases an anointing to preach the gospel, heal the sick, cast out demons and raise the dead.

When you find your identity –it will give you a vision –that leads to a purpose – that creates an atmosphere for ministry.

Signs of Revival in the local church…

Hello friends – hope all is well with you today!  In this little blog – I want to share a few thoughts on: is there, or could there be revival in the local church today –(of course there can be!)

I felt like the Lord put that question on my heart – can there be revival in the local church?  I would say YES!!!  I think what it will look like from church to church would be different – just in the fact that each church has her own identity in Christ – so we must make sure that we never try to copy or mimic another move of God – it will be shortly lived if so…

So what could revival look like in the local church?  Here are a few points:

1.   A passion within the people to see the lost come to Jesus.

2.   A passion within worship that goes further then just signing songs.

3.   A passion to hear what the Father is saying to the people.

4.   A passion to see the Lord restore, convert and bring freedom to the community.

5.   An increase within the gifts of the spirit. Healing, Words of Knowledge and Prophesy that brings direction.

6.   An understanding among the leaders that it is a team that brings the Kingdom of God to earth in its fullness.

7.   The congregation realizing that they play a role in such a movement.

8.   The congregation beginning to walk in their individual calling and purpose.

9.   The church realizing what the Lord is doing and rejoicing in it.

10. A bond of unity seen among the congregation.

The list could go on…we must never look down on the small beginnings – you never know the fullness of such a movement – I believe the Lord conceals that so we rely on Him – period.

Does this revival have to spread to different states – That is all in the Lord’s will and purpose. We can not assume such a thing – such an action would neglect Proverbs –Lean not on your own understanding” – I would say, go with the flow of His spirit – if we stay humble, sincere and minister in Love – the move you may experience may ignite outside of your community, county or State.

I would say, local revival is to revive not just the people in your church – but is should bring an impact on its community.  We should see and hear about people getting ministered outside of the church walls. The Lord doesn’t revive a people just so they feel free, loved and looked upon – but there is always a purpose to His movement – to bring the lost to the saving grace found in Jesus!

Why do we need the prophetic word in the Church today?

2 Peter 1:16-21

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”— 18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

As I read this passage today – I saw something I never saw before – the power of “the word of Knowledge” and then followed up with a “word of Prophecy” in this passage – check it out…

This is a great passage that helps with understanding the need for hearing and delivering the prophetic word in the Church and communities we live in today. As we remember that the Lord is the same today as He was yesterday –meaning in the days of Jesus.

We see in verse 17 that there was a word of Knowledge “This is my Son” – this word on knowledge was to confirm that Jesus was the Son of God and to bring such clarity to the men that question His ministry and integrity.  Then the Lord follows up with the prophetic word – “With whom I am well – pleased” Wow – such few words, but so much power.

So many times I have seen the prophetic word given in much deeper lengths – the length of the word is not important – the meaning of the word is the key.  The Lord spoke knowledge and then the prophetic word – amazing…

As we move a long – verse 19 is the reason for this blog – “So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.”

What is the importance of the prophetic word?  It is a lamp shining in a dark place.  I have seen this countless times in ministry.  As someone would come up for prayer and I would receive a word for them – and how the light of Jesus just exposed the darkness and brought peace, comfort, direction, stability, hope, correction, love and so forth onto the scene.

It is so important that we minister the prophetic word, it is not for you and I to get another notch in our prophetic belt, but to give light that shines in the darkness for those that cant see their way.  Now, I want to make it clear – this doesn’t mean we expose sin that is the job of the Holy Spirit – to convict.  We are to hear the heart of the Father and speak that to the one that is seeking the Lord.

Another point I want to make here, per this passage – the prophetic is not to just confirm a “word” already given – but to forth tell the plans the Lord has for an individual.   The second part of verse 19 “until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts” – until the day dawns and morning star arises – talking about time lapse.

If we would study the prophetic words all through scripture – most of them are speaking about a later event – we must not get hung up on this – the prophetic does both – confirm and reveal events to come –or it may reveal your calling to help prepare you.

I love the part – you will do well to pay attention – meaning, do not ignore the prophetic word – pray over it.  Search the scriptures, ask the Lord for clarity.  Share with others, that they may be able to give wisdom in how to walk it out.  All prophecy needs to be judged and you are accountable to do so!

I have a passion to see men and women take a stand and begin to hear from heaven and spoke with authority that which the Lord is saying – we must speak with love and humility, but it must be spoken – the power of the word changes lives.

Do not get hung up on the size – its ok if you only have a few words – the prophetic word we have been looking at has only 11words.  Don’t make it hard – keep it simple and to the point.

Yesterday as I was ministering – I heard one word as I was praying for a lady – “hospitality” I said to her – this is what I am hearing – she began to cry – One word set her free to move in her gifting –Hospitality wasn’t the prophetic word – that was the word of knowledge – then I began to speak over her that lead to the prophetic word that gave her freedom.

So why do we need the prophetic – for starters; if it’s in the Bible, that’s good enough for me! Secondly – it bring a lamp that shines in the darkness.  It brings clarity, purpose, hope, faith, knowledge, wisdom, freedom and assurance to those that you are ministering too.  Don’t get discouraged if you “think”the words you getting are not mountain moving words – we don’t know what a word really does to someone as we move on. Speak what you have been given and seek to grow in the gift.

May the Lord release over you today the gift of prophecy; may your eyes and ears be open to see and hear from Heaven.  May the spirit of the Lord rest upon you as you open your mouth to speak on His behalf – be a blessing to someone – get a word for them and share it in Love today!

Why the Supernatural – Part 3

So my lovely wife and I were out on a date last night and we were talking about the supernatural and kinda dreaming big for our community and church family.  Is it ok to dream big, I think so – depending on what the potential the dream has in the outcome?

We were talking about how people fly all over the world to go to conferences to get an impartation or healing, miracle or just to soak in His presence.  I have no issue with this if there is a balance in your walk – meaning that you do not become a“conference junky” and your life is still in chaos.  Purpose of the conference is to equip, heal and set free the saints.

So I was talking about my desire and ongoing vision I have for our community and church.  Right now our Pastors wife is at Global Awaking school of ministry where they are teaching on the power, influence and how to move within the supernatural.  Our Pastor has a hunger to see the Church walk in the true model of the New Testament Church found in the book of Acts.  We have people interceding for our meetings, community and those that are lost in this darkness.  We have people beginning to understand their purpose / calling in the body.  We have had a transition in our Worship ministry – that has opened doors for others to step into their role – as the former ones are walking in theirs helping another body.  Also we have had witnessed numerous words of knowledge that led to people being healed.

As I think about this – I can imagine we are at the verge of renewal to come upon our fellowship. There is a buzz going around that people are starting to come looking for something different then what they are use to.  We have a few families that have joined in our meetings that are totally on board on the direction we are heading.  The last thing that is so exciting and interesting is the Lord spoke to our body that we have been trusted to spiritually govern a 50 mile radius around our church building.  Do we totally know what that means, not yet –but we are praying for a true understanding.

So what does this have to do with the supernatural?  I believe the first point is – we as a body and through the leading of the Holy Spirit have seen change in different areas within the “government of the church”. As I have mentioned in the last to parts – the supernatural is evident when the Holy Spirit has freedom to move. This starts from the governing body that guides the Church.

First Step

I can see that we are shifting from a “pastoral government”to an “apostolic” government – in a nutshell – going from caring for the peoples concerns to making the shift to caring for the will of the Father – in which covers the people and their needs, but it is lead by His spirit.  Caring for the people being lead by the Holy Spirit will have more of an impact then someone trying to do this through their own understanding.

Second Step

The Lord is revealing within the church the gifts that have been given to help equip the saints – also He is revealing spiritual gifts within people – as they move in them; it creates an atmosphere for Heaven to touch earth.

Third Step

I think this is a very important step – we are building relationships among the congregation. This is a much needed step for trust, credibility and openness to be within our family.  We are asking for each member at some time to go through a discipleship class – so needed in the church.  When the supernatural becomes part of our culture – we will need solid men and women to help guide and disciple others.

Fourth Step

We have a created a “healing Room” ministry.  Does this have to be implemented in a church to have the supernatural?  No, but it creates a “safe haven” for those that are sick to come and get ministered too –as they get healed and testify – it creates faith that our God is still healing today – and stirs up the body to receive prayer.  Healing is part of the supernatural move oft he Lord – we need to be open and willing every opportunity to pray for the sick.

Fifth Step

As I stated – we have had a change in worship – we are looking to the Lord to release His song over us – someway / somehow that will stir the hearts of the congregation to go deeper in the praise unto Jesus that invites His presence.  Worship is a key that opens the heart and spirit that allows the Holy Spirit freedom.

Sixth Step

There is a hunger among the congregation to hear the Lord speak and release it prophetically. Hunger is a key – it shows that we are dependent on the Lord.  For some reason the Lord uses man to release His will, purpose, healing, miracles, signs and wonders – we need to be that open conduit to allow such a movement.

So…to tie all this together – I believe without the six steps we are achieving in our church culture – we would not be at what ‘I feel”on the edge of a breakthrough.  Such a break through that will lead to renewal of the body that sets the stage for revival in our community.  We want to be known for a body that does not speak persuasive words – but one that comes in the demonstration of His power!

The supernatural is released through co-laboring with Heaven– not fighting against it.  As we progress in wisdom and knowledge – the more we will see the unfolding of His purpose in our Land.  God is a God of order – and He is looking for those to walk in such an order – and it usually will not be in an order that we have been taught or thought.

I felt like I needed to spell out in simple terms why and how we are beginning to see His hand move – I feel like the Lord would have this written to stir up others, to give hope and assurance that He sees and hears the hearts of His people – whether you are in our home church or another– seek for His love to shine that will bring forth the fruits of the supernatural.

Each church family has its own identity - we are beginning to understand ours - my prayer is that your church will walk in theirs to the measure given to them...

Many blessings to you,

Les Tomlinson, Jr.
